About Avocet

Avocet is the original 1840 house at Rose Trellis, in the heart of historic Harpers Ferry and about 90 minutes from DC and Baltimore. Original heart pine floors, period woodwork and hand-built craftsmanship give it a character no modern build can match. Inside you'll find a copper soaking tub and a fully stocked coffee bar with French press, drip, teas and hot chocolate. It sleeps 3 in one queen bedroom and one private twin room.

Outside

Settle into the rocking chairs on the front deck and listen to live music drift over from The Barn. The yard has string lights, a kettle grill, a fire pit with wood provided and a disc golf basket. Outdoor spaces are shared with the other unit at Rose Trellis.

Good to know

The staircase to the second floor is a narrow 1800s spiral with small steps. The stairway entrance is about 5'9" and upstairs ceilings are about 6'3". The only bathroom is upstairs. Guests with small children or mobility concerns may find these historic features challenging. Avocet is pet free, though the shared yard is pet friendly. Smoking is permitted outdoors only.

The neighborhood

Snallygaster's Cafe, Kelley Farm Kitchen and The Barn's live music are steps away. Lower Town, Harpers Ferry National Historical Park, the Appalachian Trail and the C&O Canal Towpath are all within walking distance, and the Amtrak/MARC station is an easy walk, so you can visit without a car.
